1st Birthday Party; Planning and Partying

On Saturday we celebrated Finn's first birthday with an afternoon barbeque. The BBQ includes bean bags, potato salad, brats, burgers, beans and birthday cake.

I've been planning Finn's party for a few weeks, but as with all parties, there is a mad rush the night before to get everything done in time. I spend most of Friday night trying to get a rainbow cake and cupcakes baked while frantically cleaning and putting the final touches on all the other projects I've started.

The clock is ticking, AHHHHHH.

Finally, and luckily I finish the cake around midnight. It's not without some major problems though. I originally bake 4 tiers, 3 for the cake and one for back up, the finished cake ends up being 2 tiers. Around 11pm everything fell apart, literally. After a few tears and a couple swears I was able to salvage the cake.

Things are no longer falling apart but quickly falling into place.

I've been working on this Birthday banner for a few weeks. It will be used year after year.

The dessert table. Looking good.

I make an early morning dash to the farmer's market and score a ton of flowers for not a ton of money.

Here's a view from a sattelite, just kidding, I took this photo from the window in Finn's room.

The backyard is all done up with crepe paper balls.

All of Finn's friends, who happen to be adults and work at the Green Mill, show up to wish Finn a happy Birthday.

Finn ends up not wanting to eat cake at all. Hopefully by age 2 he will realize he's missing out.
A present for Elsa & Mom

A matching present for a new mom and her little lady.

These will be perfect for the fall and early winter and will surely go with all Elsa's other pink outfits.

Mom's cozy/coozie/koozie comes with some "key" features, including a useful key pocket and convenient shot gun hole

A close up, you get the picture.

And just because we can't get enough of her, Here is Mom and Elsa in the hospital, only 1 day old.

Happy Birthday Elsa Mary Jane!!!!!!!!!

Nicole and Aaron just welcomed a healthy baby girl into the world today. Obviously we are already planning the future wedding of Finn and Elsa in 2034. Other than that no other baby news is known at the moment. I'm sure Colez will be posting many photos in the near future. Congratulations Colez an Rippy!

Update: Finn's 1st B-Day Partay

Only ten days till Finn's 1st Birthday party and I haven't started doing much of anything, so since I had the day off of work today I try and make a valiant effort at getting some pre-party work done. I decide that I am going to make little flags for Finn's bday cupcakes, some will say "Finn" and the rest will say "1". Since I'm trying to do everything as affordable as possible I try my hand at potato stamps. In case anyone else ever wants to give this a shot, remember, you always want to carve your words in a mirror image so that it will print forwards not backwards.

I grab some house paint and start stamping away with the new reverse facing stamps.

I've got all my Finn's in a row.

The almost finished product. All I need is a toothpick and a cupcake.

Finn and I take a trip to the Litin Everything Party & Paper store and stock up on crepe paper tissue balls, and colored plates, napkins and silverware.

Here's one of the tissue balls hanging, just so you know what I am talking about. I think they're so pretty.

The other thing I've been working on is making Finn's Birthday garland. I have all the letter stitched except one, now I just need to add yarn to hang from, and attach with doll pins.
Finn Update

The new greatest photo ever. Finn is anti shoes and pro outside.

This is Finn with his new teeth, he's had his bottom ones for a few months, and as of last week he has 1.5 new teeth on the top. The 2nd of the top teeth just broke through today!
50's Stix, A Birthday present for Matt

It's 50's 28th birthday and I decide to make him a Stix case. This case can be used for one of two things, he can either put his drumstix in here, or his paintstix, or both. Either way he now has a styling new case made with love.

Just in case anyone gets confused as to who's stix case this really is.

All rolled up, there is two button holes depending on whether or not Matt is toting a lot of stixs or only a few.
